HOW TO GET TO THE OLERON ISLAND
Getting here by car :
- From Bordeaux : Follow the A10 freeway - Exit 25 at Saintes, direction île d'Oléron.
- From Nantes : Follow the freeway - Exit La Rochelle, then follow Marans / La Rochelle / Rochefort / île d'Oléron.
- From Paris : Follow the A10 freeway - Exit La Rochelle / Rochefort, then follow Surgères / Rochefort / île d'Oléron.
The bridges over the Charente at Rochefort, the Seudre at Marennes / La Tremblade and Oléron are free of charge.
By bus :
3 regional routes serve Ile d'Oléron all year round (6, 6E and 7) and 1 in summer only (8)
Route 6 E: Surgères > Rochefort > Marennes > Bourcefranc le Chapus > Le Château d'Oléron > Dolus d'Oléron > Saint Pierre d'Oléron
Route 6: Rochefort > Marennes > Bourcefranc le Chapus > Le Château d'Oléron > Dolus d'Oléron > Saint Pierre d'Oléron
Route 7: La Rochelle > Marennes > Le Château d'Oléron > Dolus d'Oléron > Saint Pierre d'Oléron
Route 8: Saintes > Le Gua > Saint Just Luzac > Marennes > Saint-Pierre d'Oléron (summer only for Ile d'Oléron)

Coming by train + bus :
The Ile d'Oléron is not served by train. However, the train stations at La Rochelle, Rochefort and Surgères offer bus connections to the island.
- From Paris: get off at Surgères station: 3h00 (direct)
- From Nantes: get off at Rochefort station: 2h17 (direct)
- From Bordeaux: get off at Saintes station: 1h50 (direct)
*In addition to the bus, you can also rent a car at La Rochelle, Surgères and Saintes stations.

Sea link: La Rochelle (pontoon of the mediatheque, avenue Michel Crépeau) - Ile d'Oléron (pier of the channel at Boyardville), from April to the end of September and during the All Saints' Day vacations. 50 minutes by fast boat.
